The simulation works like this:
peeps in a network
do simple rules
to create counter-intuitive collective behavior.
Below, we start with a randomly mixed society of cowboys & fezzes.
Each peep thinks: "If more than half of my friends wear some hat, I'll wear that hat, too."
What happens?
Through bottom-up choices, with no top-down force... our peep society splits itself up. (sometimes they all become one hat type. if you get this result, hit "reset" and try again) Relating to the real world: this sim could explain how cultural boundaries form, or how political polarization happens.
But that's just one example, and this is just an embarrassingly unfinished prototype. There's so much more I want to add, such as:
The point is: I want to help people understand people.
I want to create a toy that lets people play with and make their own models of social systems -- combining psychology, sociology, economics, history, politics, etc -- so they can see how individuals are shaped by society in the short run... but also how individuals shape society in the long run.
High hopes for a bunch of badly-drawn stick figures.
Since this is a very, very early prototype, your honest feedback will have a huge impact on this! What did you like, or not like? What concerns do you have about this project? What would you like to do/make with this toy?
Let me know what you think in the Patreon comments! I'll read & respond to every one. :)
